Simone Sbaraglia has been involved with photography for over 15 years, while building a parallel career as a research scientist. After graduating in Mathematics at University of Rome, Simone joined the Italian National Research Council, where he conducted research on mathematical modeling of financial problems. After receiving a Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Rome in 2003, Simone moved to the U.S. to work at the prestigious I.B.M. T.J. Watson Research Center in New York as a Research Staff Member, conducting research in mathematics and computer science. In his qualification, Simone has been chief researcher in a number of international research projects, has authored over 15 papers published in international journals and has been granted patents and awards for his achievements. Over time, Simone’s passion for nature and photography grew to the point that he decided to make the jump into professional photography. He then moved back to Italy in 2005, taking a position as Tenured Professor in Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Cagliari, position which would allow him more time to pursue his new career. Currently, Simone is a collaborator of  the italian magazine “Oasis” and is often on assignment to cover nature, wildlife and travel reportages.  His photographs have won awards in numerous national and international competitions and his work has been exhibited in Italy and in the U.S. (see the "Awards" page for details).

Simone’s photography concentrates on nature, wildlife and travel reportage as he travels all around the world to document the beauty, harmony and uniqueness of our planet.
